Built during the wealth and opulence of the Victorian era, The Murphy House
has long been admired as one of the most beautiful and interesting
residential structures in Weston. The home was built in 1912, commissioned
by the wealthy local druggist, Frank Hillix, and his wife, both of whom were
prominent and progressive members of Weston society. In 1920, Lee and Susan
Clouser Murphy, who moved into Weston from their country homestead, acquired
the home. The Murphy’s, descendants from Weston’s earliest pioneers, lived in
the home for almost forty years. Shortly after their deaths, the home was
passed to their grandson, S.L. Ross. The youngest daughter, Mary Jo Heidrick
of S.L. Ross lives in the home and operates The Murphy House Bed and
Breakfast today.
